Exploris The Northern Ireland Aquarium
Exploris; The Northern Ireland Aquarium, is
ideally sited on the shores of a marine nature
reserve and area of special scientific interest –
Strangford Lough.
A visit to Exploris enables the visitors to view
and learn about the marine species that are indigenous to Strangford
Lough and the coastline of the island. Marine communities are recreated to
enable the visitor to gain a better understanding
of the complex inter relationships between
different species.
The Seal Sanctuary affords the visitor the
opportunity to view the process of rehabilitation
of rescued seal pups from their arrival through
to full health when they are re-introduced to the
wild.

Scrabo Tower
Located in Scrabo Country Park just outside
Newtownards Scrabo Tower is one of
Northern Ireland’s best known landmarks.
Built in 1857 as a memorial to the 3rd
Marquis of Londonderry Charles Stewart.
The tower houses two floors of displays and
a climb of 122 steps takes the visitor to the
open viewing level. Admission to the park,
which is always open, and the tower is free.

1p.m. to 5p.m. daily
July and August: 10a.m. - 5p.m. daily
October to Easter: 12p.m. to 4p.m., Sundays only
BALLYCOPELAND WINDMILL
Located at Windmill Road, Millisle, this is one of only
two working windmills in Ireland, this late 18th century
tower mill was in use until 1915 and is now fully
restored. A small visitors' centre is located inside the
miller's house and displays include a large working
model of the mill.

Somme Heritage Centre
Situated on the main Newtownards Bangor road The Museum examines Ireland's role in the
First World War and operates guided tours which include reconstructed trenches and features a
conventional museum area with regularly changing exhibitions, including World War Two. There
is also a research facility, café and shop. Conference facilities are available on request for large
and small functions.

Exhibition Hall
A guided tour takes the visitor
on the historic path from the
history and politics leading up
to the 1st World War through
the recruiting, and training
stages on on to the eventual
bloody battles that claimed
the lives of so many.
The tour consists of various
recreated dioramas with
many original artefacts on
display. At the end of the tour
an audio visual interpretation
is given of the accounts of
some of the soldiers present
on the 1 July 1916.
The tour concludes with free
time to spend time in the
exhibition hall.
